MEDALS OF HONOR

Hidden safely amongst my Mom's cherished treasures were the above pictured medals.  The first one is my Dad's.  It is his 'SERVICE MEDAL OF HONOR"  for his serving in WW11.

The second two are my Uncle Joe's. My Dad's youngest brother.  It is "THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL OF HONOR"  Joe served in the navy in WW11 and he died at sea - he went down with the ship.  The last picture is the back of the Purple Heart Medal with his name inscribed -  "Joseph Eichinger".

I am proud to display these Medals of Honor and service in our glass case with other treasures and memories we hold proudly and dear. My Mom kept these safe all these years and now they are in our home.  I am humbled.

It is items such as these, not only because of what they stand for but simply because they were your mother's possessions that will bring comfort to you over time Gail.
I have so many of my mom's things from her home that surround me. At first for a long time, they often times made me cry. But now, they are a comfort.
Some of her things I've recently been able to let go of but I still have most of them and will and cannot give them up.
You not only had some courageous men in your family but a wonderful memory keeper as well.
Love Di ♥

Kali's Dad was a sergeant during WWII and was wounded in Italy. Kali has her Dad's medals and treasurers them as you do, Gail. (Kali's Dad died of lung cancer about 5 years ago--in the end, he died reunited with a family from whom he had been estranged for many years.)

I made a comment before, Gail. But from my cell phone, I could not select an identity.

Anyway, wonderful that you've found them and even better that they're now on display.
