A song remembered

We picked up my Mom from dialysis yesterday.  With Skipp off from work we are happy to do this each Saturday.  It  is now part of our routine, rhythm so to speak.  She enjoys a weekly burger, fries and a root beer soda after leaving dialysis - that is in the rhythm as well.  :-)

She is very weak after her treatment.  Skipp had to lift her in to the car as her legs just couldn't hold her. It hurts my heart to see her so weakened.  sigh...........   She chatters all the way home about her treatment - not  unlike someone with PTSD from a trauma of some sort.  This too is hard to hear, feel, know.  She is so very brave. so gentle, so fragile and loving.  And she maintains a lovely grace and confidence that fills me with joy.  It is all so bittersweet.

When we arrived at her home my sister joined us for a nice visit -lots of laughs and some trips down memory lane. We recalled quite vividly when my sister and I took dance lessons and how all of our relatives came to our recitals.  I started when I was three!  We remembered one recital in particular and how the finale was just wonderful.  Miss Connie, our  instructor was a woman of large stature, long red wavy hair and profound talent and Broadway beauty and style.

We all began to sing the song from that finale - , "The Best Things In Life Are Free" -

Enjoy.................and keep on singing and dancing.

Gail, I am sorry to hear about your Mom's weakness. She is brave in her fight for life. I can't imagine how difficult that must be for you to see her in decline.

These are the moments that will see you through. Peace and love to you.

I love how good you, Skipp and your sister are so good to your mom. You really appreciate her while she is still with you. The new normal of burgers, fries and root beer made me smile. I hope you all can keep enjoying each other, laughter filled memories always to all of you......:-)Hugs

@PAM- so nice to see you. Yes, she is very brave and still loves life. Yesterday will remain in my heart always.

@CHOICES-ANNE - I feel like the lucky one Anne - she is a gift every day - one of the best Mom's ever. I adore her and special memories like yesterday.

@BERNIE- We all love, honor and admire her for all that she is, does, still teaches us and all of her wisdom. And I am so glad her ritual of a burger, fries and a root beer made you smile - she will be 88 and I think it is wonderful :-)
Thanks Bernie for sharing n this special memory with me.

Love to you all

The best things in life really are free!

It's funny how the "so abnormal" becomes just a part of our routine. I guess it's a way of the heart/soul protecting itself.

I'm glad for the beautiful moments you still get to share, and that you still enjoy each other while storms rage all about you. Really beautiful.
Love and Prayers,
Eileen

Ahhh...the memories you are creating will give you such comfort someday, Gail. The last months of caring for my own mother, while knowing those days were limited, have given me such peace of mine, no regrets of not appreciating that time we spent together. Those simple rituals like hamburger, fries and rootbeer become so special to look back on and smile!

Enjoy your mom, as I can tell you do. I so wish I had spent more time with my dad before he passed. I have been so busy with work and trying to make ends meet. It had been weeks since I had visited. Selfish I know, and no excuse, as we are all busy. Good on you! Blessings!!! T
