Candle-lit hugs

The ice thickened on the trees, roofs, side walks and windows - the air was a crystal mist - blurred  with white sleet and frozen ice pellets.  I wondered if the world was going to freeze over - for the most part it did.

Beautiful, huh?  As we looked out from our windows we were reminded of nature's force.  Our power went out and our world was still 'cept for the ice crystals in movement and in sound.  Tree branches creaked and snapped and windows and doors held on as the ice and sleet pounded their resistance. As darkness fell and our home chilled we stoked the fire and kept a pot of water simmering for hot tea.  We made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lit candles and oil lamps.  Skipp played guitar and we sang for hours- we played cribbage, and hangman and laughed heartily.  We opened a wonderful heavy oak and buttery flavored chardonnay -  we talked, honestly and intimately  about life, our life, our hopes and fears, dreams and blessings. There were tears and long hugs, some times those hugs that are desperate and rough - clinging and hanging on - we groped and gazed, and held on to one another in the best of ways. It was glorious and when the power did come back on - we preferred the truth of candle lit hugs.

Love Gail,
peace.......

Oh, I love when opportunities present themselves like that! Nothing you could have planned in a million years!
It's so wonderful when Heaven makes the plans for us, and more wonderful when we make the best of that plan.
So beautiful, Gail! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Stay safe and warm, and surrounded by love!
Love to you,
Eileen

I just had to come back over here to say, "JINX"! Have you ever noticed how many times we are at each other's blogs at the EXACT SAME TIME?!

It actually happens quite often! I will come back to my blog after leaving a comment here to see that you have left one on mine!
'Great minds think alike'!

LOVE YOU!, Eileen

Good for you, Gail. When the electricity goes out in my house, it's all I can do to keep from freaking out and getting depressed: "the pipes are going to freeze," "the food in the 'fridge is going to spoil," "the cats and bird are going to die," "I'm going to miss the next episode of 'Survivor'." OK, maybe not the last one, but I get myself all worked up over all the others! I should try to chill out (so to speak) and enjoy, like you!

HI SCOTT-
too funny! :-) ya, 'chill-out' for sure. So nice to see you

A day of togetherness, singing and candle lit hugs with buttery wine.....sounds perfect to me, Gail. Our electric hasn't been off at all this winter, but it's good to be snowed in with a warm fire.

Gail,

We've "messaged" before; I'm not a great correspondent, but I do see you regularly on friends' sites. I think I'm somehow afraid of your realness. I may even wish you could be my mom. I really like you. Thank you for being so wonderful to these people I really care about. I don't know how you do it. I get frustrated. Wish I could step in, fix things. Your patience, sweetness, and perseverance really amazes and inspires me. Thank you :)

(Oh - geez,Gail; I'm writing completely out of context; sorry. Not in response to this post at all, just to you, from your responses on other posts. I hope my third glass of wine, or recent divorce and inability to digest real love right now, will apologize sufficiently :( Maybe you can just not approve the prior post and just know that I appreciate you? Either way is of course ok with me.

HI JBR-

I loved both your comments and your honesty and that you like wine!! Now that is way cool. I am honored and humbled that you wish I were you Mom - wow. :-)
Please visit often and if you want to know a bit of "my" story read my post dated 9-4-08, titled "James-Daniel-Jill" only if yo feel you want to know. I understand either way.

When others rant about how awful such ice storms, and winter in general can be, with power outages, snow-closed roads, and freezing cold…remember the blessings such times also bring—quite nights together, warmth from a stove, huddling close, real conversation, hot tea, candlelight, hugs and tears, and just being there through it all with someone you love.

A simply wonderful post.

Gail/mom/sister,

Thank you, for your kind reply to me, and the specific post. You are a bit older than me, not so much as I might like to pretend. I've read some of your blog, not all. I so far just know bits and pieces. The more recent physical illness, the earlier abuse. But you've seemed older, wiser. And you still do (and a wonderful, inspiring model). But wow, you seem more like me (sorry!). Really real. I'm sorry you've been so betrayed so many times, and so, so happy for you that you have some security, happiness, and (it sounds like!) continuing excitement in your life.

I've always been a red wine fan, but you made chardonnay seem absolutely incomparable:)

Very nice, Gail

Gail said...

I enjoy red wine in the Winter, especially a nice Pinot Noir. Usually only with Italian food though. I/we enjoy Chardonnay all year long - and we love it to be heavy oak and buttery - we also like a nice light Pinot Girigio in the summer months. :-)
And so too, we are 'soul-sisters, of the spirit and heart - and of experiences that make up parts of the tapestry of our unique designs. We are purposeful and beautiful and exactly as we should be.

Absolutely lovely! We have gained so much during the last 100 years but lost so much too... But when the poser goes out... we can quickly get "it" back cause that's what human's do - adapt! maybe...we should voluntarily turn the poser off more often!?
Really enjoyed this - thanks for sharing!
Blessings!
