I Wont Back Down

Okay, I officially dislike 'systems', corporate systems are the worst.  That "$250,000.00 diagnosis post I wrote - where-in my parents-plus loan could be "forgiven"  Hah!!  There is a loop-hole.  Seems that any loans secured after 1993 don't qualify!!  What?  What does "when" have to do with "why"??  I am on Social Security Disability and I cannot work.  Duh!!  I do meet criteria for "unable to work" which has a different process after 1993.  Every six months I fill out the "I cannot work" form and I can do this for thirty six months = six times.  Then I qualify for financial hardship which will defer the loan for another 25 months.  Perhaps it is me but if one cannot work the obvious outcome is a financial hardship.  Can you even believe this rhetoric??!!  SO for the next six years I can defer the loans as outlined above. After that I have NO idea.    I am not at all happy with this plan.  I am going to contact an attorney because I find it very odd that I was told to submit VERY personal health information signed by two physicians which I was told would then qualify me for 'loan-relief'.  Clearly, when I was told of this option it was known that my loans were secured after 1993 and therefore the conditions stated above applied.  So why then would 'they direct me to submit the "personal health information" necessary to be relieved from the loan full well knowing I didn't have a chance in hell because my loans were secured after 1993.  .  Mind - boggling!  I swear I am going to 'stand my ground' AND "I Wont Back Down"

  3. One thing is for sure, filling out paper work for disability can be one of the most frustrating things you will every do......been there done that. I think I was one of the lucky ones as it didn't take very long for me at all. Honestly if you weren't sick you would be able to work yet they keep applying stress to you with these forms. So glad you are seeking legal advice, the sooner you deal with them the better you will be emotionally and physically. Keep your chin up sweetie and never give up what is yours rightfully....Hugs

  6. HI BERNIE
just to clarify, I got my Social Security Disability first try!! :-) So no worries there. In my post I am referring to loans I took for my sons tuition. Even though he got a lot in scholarships and so forth I took on about $15,000 a year for 4 years. Now that I am on disability I want to have the loans forgiven. I have faith it will work out.
    Love to you

  8. The whole world (governments included) should declare bankruptcy and start over. I'm joking, but it does seem to be a very complicated, intertwined, problem that trickles down to everyone in some way or another.

My son just finished his 4 day hospital stay for his plaque radiotherapy treatment. At first his insurance wouldn't approve the 4 days stay...said he could stay ovenight in a "motel!"

It was a case of an individual making a decision based on the lack of knowledge of "plaque" treatment. Maybe all will work out in your case too, Gail.

  9. HI WANDA_

Oh my, your son's condition and treatment sound quite serious. I am praying hard. My issue is over my 'parents-plus-student loans, and my inability to pay them back due to my being on disability. ANd now we are fighting for our Health Insurance which is in question due to a technicality. sigh.

  13. Gail it is a bunch of bull they try to feed you. When I was trying to get my disability they made me jump through hoops, and they hope everyone will back down...I don't know how the loan process works, but I imagine it is the same...when someone is ill they should not have to deal with this but to concentrate on your health. The whole system needs to be changed. I hope you get an attourney, maybe you get get them on contingency or whatever it is called. Keep strong my friend. love to you.
